The Life and Times of The Cairns

By Bernie Bell

At the moment plans for archaeological digs are in limbo, and Orkney is no exception.

However, the folk at the University of the Highlands and Islands Archaeology Institute are far from idle – carrying out post excavation work, recording and documenting their finds and the progress of the sites, and presenting on-line talks.

The excavation at the Iron Age site at The Cairns, South Ronaldsay, is the subject of the next talk hosted by the Orkney Archaeology Society.

The free online talk ‘The Life and Times of The Cairns : A Thousand Years of living at a Broch’ will be given by UHI lecturer Martin Carruthers – who is excavation Director at The Cairns – and will take place on Wednesday, April 28, at 7pm (BST)
