Scottish Parliament Election: Highlands and Islands Regional Candidates
When you vote in the Scottish Parliament elections on Thursday 6th of May 2021.There are two ballot papers.
- Orkney Constituency – First Past the Post – you have one vote
- Highlands and Islands Region – you have one vote – you vote for a political party or an independent individual.
Sean Robertson Scottish Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (Scottish TUSC)

Sean Robertson is the lead candidate for the TUSC in the Highlands and Islands Regional List. He is an NHS worker and socialist campaigner from Easter Ross. Sean is campaigning for a £12 per hour minimum wage and a 15% pay rise in NHS and care. Housing is also a key aim to build 10,000 council homes in Highlands and Islands.
Sean said:
“The pandemic revealed the failures of capitalism. Decades of austerity meant public services were ill-equipped to cope during Covid.
“Thousands face redundancy, but the billionaires have become even richer. Scottish TUSC fights to change this. We will take the wealth from the 1% and give it to the 99% via jobs, homes and pay rises.”
The Scottish TUSC is a pro-independence, socialist party. It aims to reverse austerity, fund a massive investment in infrastructure via wealth taxes, take into public ownership big businesses and build a green energy revolution.
Sean continued:
“We need an independent socialist Scotland. Independence alone won’t solve the problems that decades of capitalist austerity has caused in Scotland. Only via socialism can the wealth in society be used to end poverty and inequality. To win independence, asking Boris Johnson for a referendum won’t be enough. We advocate a mass movement, including strikes, occupations and mass demonstrations to secure Scotland’s democratic right to self determination.
“For an independent, socialist Scotland, vote Scottish TUSC.”

Highlands and Islands Regional Vote
There are 2 people standing as independents (not in a political party) and there are political party lists.
If you vote for an individual that is recorded as a vote for that person.
If you vote for a political party then, depending on the share of the vote that party gets across the whole region, the candidates are elected from that party selected list. The political parties have ranked their candidates according to their selection rules of who they think is the top one etc.
