Today5th May:

An unusual May morning with strong to near gale northerly winds pushing frequent, perhaps wintry, showers across the Northern Isles. Winds easing though the afternoon with showers tending to be more focused across Orkney. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Tonight:

Showers quite frequent across Orkney early evening, otherwise only scattered relatively light outbreaks between clear spells. Winds northerly veering northeast by dawn. Chance frost by dawn away from windward coasts. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Thursday 6th May:

A few isolated light showers between brighter spells that develop into afternoon sunshine as higher cloud breaks from the north. North to northeast breezes. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Friday and Saturday brings sunshine and a few scattered showers. Gales and periods of rain spreading from the south overnight Saturday, leading to a wet and very windy Sunday.
