World’s First Motor Race #OnThisDay

On 13th of June 1895 the World’s first motor race took place – Paris – Bordeaux- Paris

Although other races had been taking place with road vehicles, this one claims to be the first. Twenty two cars took part of which only 9 completed the course.

It was won in 48hours 48 minutes by Emile Levassor in a Panhard-Levassor 1205cc model.

Emile Levassor was seriously injured in 1896 when taking part in the 1896 Paris–Marseille–Paris race,while trying to avoid hitting a dog. He never recovered from the injury, and died in Paris a year later.
