Week Twenty-five – One Day At A Time

June the Eighteenth………..Seems a shame to mow them………..Cheery little sorts…….Exit, singing ‘Daisy, daisy give me your answer do……’  Who remembers that song?

June the Nineteenth………………Nematodes……..The biological, non-chemical solution to pest control for your veg patch..….A GOOD THING!!!

June the Twentieth……….By Stenness Loch……A Four-leaf clover……. Good Luck to the Ness of Brodgar dig – starting soon!

June the Twenty-first……………Along the shore-line……..Variety of life…………

June the Twenty-second………………….Flying the Flag for summer……………

June the Twenty-third………………..In a field by the track……. A young Hare……..A bit wary……

June the Twenty-fourth…………….We got our kitchen table back!!!!!!

When Mike came home to work in March 2020, I handed over my den to him, and the kitchen table became my ‘work station’.

We had no idea that the situation would go on for so long, and it kept looking like he might be going back into work – but – it now looks like this might keep on going up and down for …how long?

So, I turned my mind to how to work with it…….thought about the spare room which is hardly ever used…….thought about how a bit of re-arranging could mean I could use that as my place to tippy tap to people……….bought a desk from Sinclair Office Supplies https://www.sinclairoffice.co.uk/office-supplies – who deliver to your house, and……..the plan worked!  Deep joy……we now have a kitchen table which means we can have salady spreads in the summer, Mike can eat his breakfast in peace without me next to him saying ”Look at this  – look at this etc. etc.”  And – we can sit at the table for Christmas dinner this year.

It’s surprising how big a difference it makes, but I suppose the kitchen is the heart of a home, and the kitchen table is the heart of  the kitchen.

Mike working at home has meant us buying another office chair, and now a desk, and using more ‘lecci – but – saves a lot on petrol – we’ve saved on not having holidays – and – we like him being home!

We’ll like it even more when folk can live their lives again though.

  1. In light of this article https://theorkneynews.scot/2021/06/26/one-parent-described-the-family-as-living-in-one-room-shocking-report-on-housing-heating-in-orkney/ it might appear insensitive of me to talk of having a spare room which isn’t used much, buying another desk etc – even saying that we prefer Mike being home, as many have found that being together more has brought problems.

But – this is my life as it is now – I’ve had my times of living in damp flats.
I very much appreciate my life now, while being aware of how life can be for people. I thought I should add this.

At one time I would have said “Vote Labour” but that got lost some years/decades ago.
