This morning, first thing – we were having our breakfast, and noticed the heron standing at the far side of the pond. Standing stock still. Then, he slowly crouched down and stretched his neck out. He stayed like that for a bit, obviously focusing on something. Then, in one move he stepped into the pond, and ….jabbed! And came up with a big fat frog. He got back on the side of the pond and washed and washed the frog ( we’ve seen the herons do this before). Then swallowed it. Had a few sips of water to wash it down. Stood a bit to digest, then flew off over the bay.
I love to see this – it’s a real wild thing in our garden. Hunting. Watching wild – life, living. I like the frogs too, but a heron’s gotta eat.
