Showers frequent and heavy through the morning, potentially bringing some thunder. Turning drier and brighter for the afternoon. West to southwest winds strong, perhaps near gale across Orkney. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

A few light and isolated showers around, mainly across Shetland and during the evening. Clear spells waning overnight as higher cloud streams from the south. West to southwest winds fresh. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Friday 31st December:

Probably seeing some of the best of Scotland’s weather with only a few light, isolated showers between brighter spells. Temperatures relatively mild again. Fresh winds veering north to northwest later. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Saturday mild, but not feeling so in brisk winds that bring showers or longer periods of rain. Sunshine, showers for Sunday. Rain then showers Monday, these perhaps wintry later.
