Today 28th January:

An occasional shower to start the day, mainly for Shetland, then a band of more persistent rain will spread east from late morning, persisting through much of the day. West to southwest winds strengthening to gales from early afternoon. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Outbreaks of rain and drizzle through the night, turning persistent and heavy at times by morning. Gale force southwesterly winds, perhaps squally in Shetland later. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Saturday 29th January:

Heavy rain soon clearing to leave blustery showers which will be wintry at times. Gale or severe gale force southwesterly winds quickly becoming northwesterly and easing slightly in Orkney later. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Lighter winds on Sunday with showers or longer spells of rain later. Strong to gale force northwesterly winds bringing blustery wintry showers on Monday. Staying wet and windy on Tuesday.
