I don’t really go for Valentine’s Day. I’m not averse to Romance (with a capital ‘R’), but, for me, Romance doesn’t come in the form of a heart-shaped box of chocolates. On-going, day to day warmth and kindness, with some sudden, un-expected hugs – that’s more my way.
But many folk do go for marking the 14th of February as a day of Romance, and are a bit stuck for what to get to show someone how they feel about them. It can be a good opportunity for someone who hasn’t been able to build up the courage to say how they feel, to ‘take the plunge’!
In that situation, you can’t go far wrong with Stevie Wonder’s song ‘Feel Too Shy To Say’ from the album ‘Fulfillingness First Finale’………..
But I’m straying from the point. The Ness of Brodgar might not be the first thing that comes to mind when Romance is mentioned, though I’m sure some romances have been born, and blossomed on the dig there.
Those soppy old things at the Ness of Brodgar Trust have joined with wood turner Michael Sinclair https://theorkneynews.scot/2019/01/07/timelines-of-an-orkney-wood-turner/ to come up with some ideas for Valentine’s gifts for the less heart-shaped chocolate box inclined among us…..
And – bowls are always useful.

Any day – can be Valentine’s Day!!!
