A mainly dry and bright start but cloud and outbreaks of rain reaching Orkney late morning and Shetland by early afternoon. Light winds becoming strong to gale force from the south or southwest. Turning milder. Maximum temperature 9 °C.
Rain quickly clearing early evening followed by clear spells and blustery showers. These turning wintry over Shetland later in the night. Strong to gale force west or southwesterly winds. Minimum temperature 2 °C.
Tuesday 8th February:
Bright spells and frequent showers, some heavy with hail and possibly thunder. Feeling cold with strong southwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 6 °C.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
A cold few days with wintry showers, some of these could be heavy with hail and thunder. Strong winds at times, with severe gales on Wednesday night. Winds easing Friday.
