After a 2 year delay due to Covid restrictions the St Magnus Way Cycle Route was launched on Saturday 16th of April, St Magnus Day.

17 members of the Orkney Cycle Club met outside St Magnus Cathedral at 9 am, were presented with a pilgrim’s shell and then set off in two groups.

With the wind behind them while cycling north they made good time for the refreshment break at The St Magnus Church in Birsay. A fine spread provided by members of the St Magnus Kirk Trust and others sped them on their way back to the cathedral.

The 67 mile route is mostly on roads with short off road sections. It can be split into two shorter routes for those wanting a more leisurely ride. The St Magnus Way app, downloadable from the website, will give cyclists all the information, reflective materials etc. for those wanting the complete pilgrimage experience. Full details are on the Cycle Route tab on the home page of www.stmagnusway.com.
