Refugee Week lunch – Sunday 19 June

12 – 2pm, St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall

Organised by Amnesty International Orkney and Orkney Friends of Palestine

Lunch: Soup (vegan lentil, pea pesto), bread and cheese, Fairtrade tea and coffee

  • International Craft Sales
  • Free admission
  • All welcome

Donations kindly received will be transferred to Shu’fat Refugee Camp (East Jerusalem) with whom we have close and personal connections. All proceeds will go to the Camp’s Centre for disabled children. Their main purpose is to provide children and young people with social activities and health care support.

Projects that will be supported include:

A summer camp in Tiberias, on the Sea of Galilee – children’s only chance of escape from the camp
Increased investment in speech therapy and activities for disabled children
Celebrate the International Day of Disabled Persons – December – feed 100 families

Shu’fat is the only Palestinian refugee camp that is within what is internationally recognised as de facto Israeli territory. This creates further obstacles to the support operations of UNWRA, which itself is seeing major funding cuts especially by the US. This is why we concentrate on helping Shu’fat.

Come and have a friendly chat with folk over a tasty lunch and help make a difference!
