Kirkwall East Councillor, John Ross Scott, Scottish Green Party, has been elected as a co-convener of the Association of Scottish Green Councillors. Councillor Susan Rae of Leith Walk, Edinburgh is the other co-convener.
John takes on the role previously held by another OIC councillor, Steve Sankey, who retired from the council this year.
A delighted Councillor Scott said:
“With so many new councillors – most of them young and enthusiastic – there is a need to better coordinate the work we do across Scotland linking with CoSLA and the Unions. Susan and I hope we can provide a steadying force that develops Green activities by sharing best practice and initiatives that really mean something to local communities.”
The Scottish Greens have 35 councillors in Scotland two of whom are in Orkney Islands Council: Councillor John Ross Scott and Councillor Kristopher Leask.
