On 23rd of October 1941, the animated Disney film Dumbo was released.

It is one of Disney’s shortest films at only 64 minutes long.

In recent years it has been criticised for having stereotypical racist portrayals.

A live action version was released in 2019 by Tim Burton which has not been particularly successful.

The animation, although a children’s cartoon, deals with issues of child parent separation, bullying, exploitation, and drug use: to name just a few in just over an hour.

Production of the film was also affected by The Disney Strike of animators in 1941.

One response to “Dumbo #OnThisDay”

  1. This was, I think, the first film I saw as a small child and my lasting memories are of being very distressed during and afterwards. Thanks for the confirmation of its content.
