Today 14th March:

A cold day with sunny spells and occasionally heavy snow showers. Further accumulations of snow are expected, especially across Shetland this afternoon as the showers become more frequent. Lying snow drifting in the strengthening northwesterly winds, with gales later. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Tonight:

A cold and windy night with further heavy snow showers, most frequent across Shetland during the evening. Drifting of lying snow is expected with severe northwesterly gales for a time. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Wednesday 15th March:

Sunny spells and occasionally heavy snow showers, the showers becoming increasingly confined to Shetland through the afternoon with more in the way of sunshine for Orkney. Northwesterly winds easing. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Unsettled but generally milder with outbreaks of rain or showers, perhaps still wintry at first across Shetland, with a thaw of lying snow likely. Perhaps some brighter spells Friday.
