On 16th of April 1746 the Jacobite army was defeated by the Hanoverians on the moor at Culloden, near Inverness.

Culloden battlefield is now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.
The defeat of the forces to restore a Stuart to the throne of Britain saw the ending of the Jacobite cause and what followed was a brutal campaign to pursue supporters and those who gave them aid.
