Mars is braw in crammasy,
Venus in a green silk goun,
The auld mune shak’s her gowden feathers,
Their starry talk’s a wheen o’ blethers,
Nane for thee a thochtie sparin’
Earth, thou bonnie broukit bairn!
– But greet, an’ in your tears ye’ll drown
The haill clanjamfrie!

  1. I’m trying to trace the artist who created a set of paintings inspired by this poem. They were exhibited at the Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine, some years ago, but they can’t help, neither can the Scottish Poetry Library. A print of the main painting hung in the bar of the Oran Mor in Glasgow in 2010, but I don’t know if it’s still there and I’ve no reply from the Oran Mor itself. Any help would be appreciated.

Was it the artist Sheila Mullen ?

  2. No, definitely a man. He gave me a copy of his book with the full set of paintings, but unfortunately I passed it to another editor without noting the details.
