George Rendall: ‘The Rive Gauche’, St Magnus International Festival

In this film George Rendall remembers his time with the St. Magnus Festival, and considers how contact with “the Rive Gauche” of Orkney changed his own thinking.

George is a former Treasurer and Chairman of the Festival, as well as occasional director and singer with the Nø Boys.

The St Magnus International Festival runs from 16th to 23rd of June 2023.

Filmed by Martin Laird, researched by Fiona Grahame, and produced by Orkney News Ltd, ‘Orcadian Stories’ is a series of short filmed interviews of people who have played a part in creating a cultural legacy for the islands. The films focus on individuals telling their stories. All the individuals filmed have contributed to the local community through their work which may be for art, music, film, communications, tradition, mental health, and wellbeing.

This film has been supported by the Year of Stories 2022 Community Stories Fund. This fund is being delivered in partnership between VisitScotland and Museums Galleries Scotland with support from National Lottery Heritage Fund thanks to National Lottery players.  Thanks too to the members of The Orkney Club, where this interview was filmed.
