‘Stone Me’: Exploring Scotland’s Stone Circles

Stone Me is a podcast series by Matthew Magee who has visited several stone circles across Scotland speaking to various experts on location.

The series is a fascinating podcast to listen to and well produced. Included in the series is Orkney’s own Ring of Brodgar.

Duncan Lunan who writes astronomy and space articles for The Orkney News appears in the last programme of the current series along with archaeologist Dr Ken Brophy. In that podcast, Matthew Magee is at a modern day Stone Circle designed by Duncan Lunan back in the 1970s.

Sighthill Stone Circle, Glasgow, is described by Ken Brophy in the podcast as ‘The Neolithic’s greatest hits all brought together in one stone circle’. This is due to Duncan Lunan’s astronomically aligned circle being inspired by elements in other stone circles he has visited.

If you would like to read more about this ‘new’ stone circle and its importance to the many people who use it, The Orkney News has several articles published about it: its original construction, the campaign to save it, and its re-opening on a new site in 2023.
