One of the must see places to visit in the north west of the Scottish Mainland is The Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge.

The memorial is set overlooking the wonderful Mamore Mountains and Ben Nevis. Stunning today, but this is where those men trained for action during World War Two.

Designed by Scott Sutherland, the sculpture was cast in the H.H Martyn and Company’s foundry and officially unveiled by the Queen Mother on 27 September 1952.
There is a large car park for the many visitors, some with a connection to the men who trained here, some with more recent memories of loss, and those who arrive on the many tour buses for which this is a popular stop off site.
Whatever the reasons for visiting this beautiful place, all that do so quietly walk around both the statue and the garden of remembrance.

This is a very special place and is a Category A listed monument.
