In the windows of The Northlight Gallery, Stromness till 10th of December are prints by George Logan.

George Logan, whose work some will remember from the Art For Ukraine Sale, is showing a selection of images from his series of photographs of remnant Orchards in the Carse of Gowrie between Perth and Dundee, and some images of clouds taken on a few largely rain free days on the Isle of Rum.

About the orchards, George says

“Scotland has a long tradition of growing and cultivating fruit trees, going back to when the monasteries were landowners and producers some six hundred years ago. When Boswell and Johnson recorded their Journey to the Western Isles  in 1773, travelling across a large portion of Scotland, they highlighted those landowners who nurtured their own orchard. Seen perhaps as a sign of enlightenment and being progressive, especially not long after the 45′ rebellion.  Fruit growing was a major industry in the 19th century.”
