Today 12th January:

Mainly cloudy with occasional mainly light rain or drizzle, becoming drier for a time during the afternoon with perhaps a few brighter spells, mainly across easterly parts of both Shetland and Orkney, Freshening west to southwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Tonight:

Outbreaks of rain spreading southeast across the Isles during the evening, becoming heavy for a time before clearing to showers overnight. Strong west then northwesterly winds. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Saturday 13th January:

A much brighter but colder day with sunny spells and showers, these turning wintry over Shetland during the morning and Orkney by the end of the afternoon. Strong northwesterly winds Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

The cold theme will continue with sunshine and snow showers, giving slight or moderate accumulations with some drifting in the northwesterly winds, which will reach gale force on Sunday.
