Today 17th January:

Frequent, occasionally heavy, snow showers with only brief sunny spells continue through the day with further significant accumulations of snow likely. Lying snow, especially across Shetland, will drift in the occasionally strong northerly winds. Maximum temperature 2 °C.

Tonight:

Frequent snow showers continue through the evening and overnight, these heavy at times. Further drifting of lying snow likely in the strong northerly then northwesterly winds. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Thursday 18th January:

A bitterly cold day with frequent, occasionally heavy snow showers, although Orkney may see fewer showers and more sunshine in the afternoon. Drifting snow likely in the strong northwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 2 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Further snow showers on Friday but winds easing. Becoming milder, with a thaw setting in, this weekend with showers or longer spells of rain, and potentially very windy on Sunday.
