On Friday, 17 May at 7:30pm a public meeting will be held in St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall with Khalil Alamour from Al Sira village.

The meeting is being hosted by Amnesty Orkney and Orkney Friends of Palestine. It will be livestreamed to The Orkney News YouTube channel. A recording will also be made of the meeting for anyone who misses the livestream or who wishes to share the recording to friends.

Khalil is a community leader in the village of Al Sira in Israel. Al Sira, in the Naqab [Negev] desert, is one of 40 Bedouin villages that are unrecognised by the Israeli authorities and so are not shown on Israeli maps. They are not provided with basic services. For education and health care people have to travel to one of the ghetto towns into which most Bedouin in the Naqab have been forced to move.
