Conor Savage, Labour Party Candidate for Orkney and Shetland at the General Election on 4th July , has commented this week on Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan and GB Energy:
Conor said:

“With Labour, Scotland will lead the clean energy revolution. We will set up Great British Energy to give Scotland the future it deserves. Cut bills for good, boost our energy security, and it’ll be headquartered – here in Scotland.”
“Early investments will include wind and solar projects in communities up and down the country, as well as making Britain a world-leader in cutting edge technologies such as floating offshore wind. GB Energy is one part of Labour’s plans to reindustrialise Britain with the biggest investment in clean energy in British history.”
“Labour will unlock Scotland’s potential as a clean energy superpower and create thousands of good jobs. The party’s Green Prosperity Plan – funded in part by a proper windfall tax on the eye-watering profits of oil and gas giants – will deliver a total of 69,000 jobs.”

Conor continued:
“This includes a pledge to deliver 53,000 new clean energy jobs in Scotland by boosting investment in the energy technologies that Scotland could be a world leader in, including carbon capture, hydrogen, and onshore and offshore wind. A further 16,000 jobs will be created over the next decade by our Warm Homes Plan, which will insulate hundreds of thousands of Scottish homes.
“The SNP and the Tories have allowed green jobs to go overseas and failed to set out a plan to protect energy workers and communities. Both have turned their backs on working people and given up on climate leadership – but Labour will back Scotland’s vast clean energy potential.
“Labour’s game-changing Green Prosperity Plan will create 69,000 jobs across Scotland, as well as driving down energy bills, delivering climate leadership and ensuring we are no longer reliant on tyrants like Putin.
“Oil and gas workers will be at the heart of Labour’s plans, and the oil and gas industry will remain part of Scotland’s energy mix for decades to come.
“At this General Election, lower bills, more jobs and energy security are on the ballot with Labour.”
