Dr Alex Armitage, the Scottish Green Party candidate for the Orkney and Shetland Constituency at the General Election on 4th July, was welcomed by Orkney Greens at the weekend to meet local volunteers, and speak with Orcadian voters on their doorsteps.
Alex said:

“We had a great time meeting the electorate in both Kirkwall and Stromness, and it allowed us to listen to what was on folk’s minds with the general election ahead.”
“It’s abundantly clear that a great many people are concerned about the need to take urgent action on climate change, disillusioned with the old parties, and deeply frustrated at how the UK economy has poured billions of pounds into the pockets of the ultra-rich, at the expense of ordinary people and the NHS.
“Our door-to-door campaigning has given us an opportunity to remind everyone what we Greens are about, and that climate change and social justice policies are at the heart of our manifesto for change.”
Alex has returned to Shetland but is back in Orkney this Friday 7 June, campaigning in St. Margaret’s Hope with local Greens, before participating in the BBC Radio Orkney election hustings on Friday evening at 7pm at the St. Magnus Centre.
