This is Volunteers Week – 3rd to 9th June – Here at The Orkney News we would like to thank all our contributors for their work and support over the years.

As a member of Voluntary Action Orkney we would also like to thank VAO for their advice and support since we first started as a not for profit company in 2017.

Since those early days in 2017 we have gone from strength to strength and not only have our website ‘The Orkney News’ with its social media links, but also a very successful YouTube Channel and publishing company at Orkney News Ltd.

Our five Directors are volunteers and all those who write for us are too. Some of those writers have been enabled to go on to have careers in journalism, telling the stories that matter both to a local, a national and an international audience.

And thank YOU Orkney News. I started writing my Orkney Walks With Stories when I wasn’t able to do much else. Then, strangely enough, encountering some of the grouchy people’s ‘comments’ helped me to learn not to take things so much to heart generally. I’d think to myself – ‘If Fiona can deal with unreasonable responses in the volumes she has to – I can deal with the bits I have thrown at me!
I’m serious, my experiences through writing for TON have very much been a part of my journey in recent years. Thank you.
It also means that I’ve been contacted by some long-lost relatives!
