By Edwin Heath
Only the living can remember the dead, those who are gone, those who no longer have a place. What place do they have, the tens of thousands of children from Gaza who were taken from this earth, to be buried in unmarked graves, or remain missing under rubble for years to come?
Right now, they have a place in your thoughts. You who care, you who are with them in spirit, you who oppose the criminal destruction and terror which ended their short lives.
But there can and should be a real place, some actual place somewhere on this earth, reminiscent of the peace and beauty which ought to have surrounded and nurtured their innocent little lives.
One such place has been created in Orkney: the Gaza Children’s Memorial Garden. A physical space among the flowers of the earth where you, who are still alive, can reflect on even briefer lives now tragically cut short. Perhaps, by your presence and in your thoughts, the act of simply remembering them will make your heart a resting place for their souls?
This is your invitation, and our warm thanks to you. Please come and visit the garden this Sunday afternoon, 21st. July, any time after 3pm. There will be many flowers to look at. And you will be made exceedingly welcome.
