Many thanks to The Orkney News reader Ian Hollebon who was able to capture these images of the rescue on 16th September at the Brough of Birsay when a couple got caught out by the tide.

The volunteer crew of the RNLI Stromness Lifeboat – Violet Dorothy and Kathleen -rescued the couple who had become stranded on the Brough of Birsay tidal island.
The Stromness lifeboat also assisted a yacht having some difficulty in the Bay of Skaill before arriving on the scene.
The Brough of Birsay is a tidal island and visitors should check the tide times before crossing.
If you find yourself stranded on the Brough, or any other tidal location, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard, rather than attempting to wade across the tideway where there are strong currents as the tide rushes in.
