We’re a bit curmudgeonly about Christmas decorations appearing too early – as someone said, ‘There are 12 days of Christmas, and none of them are in November.’

It was Mike’s birthday…..we wanted to go out for lunch…..Sheila Fleet’s is brilliant

So we booked a table, went along, encountered festive delights and decorations and – liked it!  We’d have to be real old grouches/Grinches not to.

The café is both cheery and cosy

The food was as good as ever, and my tea was served in a delight-full glass teapot

Then we took the winding stair to the upper gallery

tiled floor past shelves of jewellery and in the corner at the end a large spiral staircase with metal hand rail

which is full of good things

and looked down onto the Christmas tree and the original stained glass window of the church

looking down from the floor above at the Christmas tree and the stained glass window in what was originally a church building

The staff are friendly and helpful,  chatting about what the weather was doing outside (!) and advising on dietary requirements, including providing a dairy-free menu.  No feeling of being hurried, though they were quite busy.

It’s all…just…lovely!
