On 15th December 1955 the single “Folsom Prison Blues” was released by Johnny Cash (Billboard Song of the Year 1968).

The song was written in 1953 and based on material composed by Gordon Jenkins. 

Johnny Cash performed the song live to a crowd of inmates at Folsom State Prison in 1968 for his live album At Folsom Prison (1968), released through Columbia Records.
