Christmas day will be cloudy with some outbreaks of light and patchy rain for Shetland, a chance it will remain drier for Orkney. Fresh to strong southwesterly winds, though lighter for a time over northern Shetland. Mild. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

A cloudy mild start to the evening with occasional rain and strong southwesterly winds. Turning clearer and drier later this evening and overnight with just the odd shower, winds easing. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Thursday 26th December

A brighter day with some sunny spells and just a few passing showers. Moderate to fresh southwest breeze, less mild. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Sunny spells and the odd shower but rain spreading from south in evening. Overnight rain clearing then clear or sunny intervals and blustery showers rest of weekend, wintry on Sunday.
