It started when friend Pete shared a post on his FB page.  This was a suggestion that if anyone would like to express support for Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde they could send her a post card.  The post included an address to send the card to.

I thought this was a very good idea, shared the post to my own FB page, and Mike and I chose a card in which I wrote that good intent overcomes bad intent, eventually, and that we are sending her all good wishes.

Next thing, the post on my FB page was deleted – a box appeared saying that it was ‘no longer available’.

I was puzzled, thought that maybe giving out her address might be seen as potentially dangerous for the Bish. So I Googled, asking for her address, and there it is, provided by no less than the Anglican Communion.

At this point I released how bad things have got, that it even occurred to me that the Bish. could be in danger because she spoke out for Compassion.

I then wrote a comment to my own, deleted, post saying..

For some reason …this was deleted. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

It was a suggestion that anyone who wants to show support for Bishop Mariann Budde could send her a postcard, and gave an address to send it to. Maybe this was seen as potentially dangerous for the Bishop, though that’s unlikely as it’s an official address so is easy enough to find, in fact, is Google-able.

We’re sending her a supportive card and, as it’s such a good idea, I’m posting the address here….

The Rt Revd Mariann Edgar Budde. Province: III; Address: Episcopal Church House, Mount St. Alban, Washington, DC, 20016-5094, USA”

I checked Pete’s FB, on which the same post had also been deleted, and posted my comment there too.

I was still puzzled, and told Mike the tale.  His thought is that it’s an example of Zuckerberg’s new FB  ‘guidelines’  – some machine somewhere has been programmed to delete anything which is critical of Trump.  This seems like a likely explanation.  I was going to write ‘reasonable’, but reason has gone out the window.

I then remembered that, recently, I’d shared a piece which was written by Nate White about why the British don’t like Trump….

……and that had been deleted too.  I was puzzled at the time, but thought it was one of those random FB things which are beyond my ken.

Now, I’m wondering if that disappeared for the same reason?

If this keeps happening I’ll keep re-posting material as a comment – if I can track down the original pieces.

Mike pointed out that something similar has happened before, in other nations under other despotic rulers.

The warning signs are there.

Meanwhile, we ‘ordinary’ folk will have to pay attention to what’s happening, keep voting, and keep on keeping on…

  1. Is there an alternative to Facebook? I don’t do twitter/X or any of the other things like Mastodon or LinkedIn.

    1. There appears to have been a mass-exodus to Bluesky. Personally, I intend to stick with FB, which is the only Social Media I use – and use is the operative word.

When a friend (actual friend – not just FB!) wrote to me….

“Facebook is part of the oligarchy. Maybe even an integral part.”

      My response was….

“Yes, it is – but I’ve found that it has its uses and I try to make it work for me, rather than let it, work me.”

      That sums up my approach.

      On a lighter note….

      Gorseness Facebook

      There’s Alfie & Papay
      Foggy & Tilly
      Ernie & Bella
      Flint & Slate
      Plus The Appietown Pack

      All FB ‘friends’
      Leaving & picking up ‘posts’
      From Telegraph poles
      And tussocky grass.

      Maybe I should mention
      That they’re dogs!

    2. There’s a thing called Bluesky. It’s an alternative to X-twitter. Many who despise the rise of trump have moved to it. I’ve never used twitter or Bluesky, but it’s out there.

  2. So disturbing. I and many others in the US are fighting this darkness as hard as we can. The darkness is strong and sneaky. Thank you for standing up for Bishop Budde and others who think like her.

  3. An antidote.

    There’s Trump & Co.

And there’s Bishop Mariann & those who see as she does.

There’s the people who voted for Trump.

    And there are these people….

  4. Fight the good fight, Ms Bell!
