What do you think the Renewables Energy Sector has brought to Orkney?

Do you think Orkney should have more control over the energy being produced in the islands?

A survey is being conducted by a student from Sorbonne University, Paris, who is interested in finding out the views of as wide a selection of people as possible to the development of renewables in Orkney.

The survey is not just for people who live in Orkney. Those who visit and wonder about the number of wind turbines they see in the islands, may also like to share their views. Or perhaps family who now live away but visit regularly and see the changes that have happened in Orkney over the years.

The survey will take about 5 minutes to complete. The details, including a QR code are in the poster.

  1. – Hundreds of jobs
    – 10s of Millions of income from microgeneration to locals
    – Lots of work for heddles, Leask and Green marine etc
    – Reduction in the reliance on low skill service industry that enslaves locals.
    – Improved demographic keeping and bringing more young people in to the community, working and bringing up families as opposed to retired lifestyle tourists which in time place additional strain on care services having contributed only a tiny number of years in council tax.

Electricity should be cheaper for Orcadians having to live with the ‘eyesore’ wind turbines and the inconvenience of having the island overrun with people working in the alternative energy sector. Orkney is not the nice place as it used to be 15 years ago. I’m a born and bred Orcadian having lived here all of my life 64 years.
