The islanders of Shetland have rallied round their Visitor Centre which was closed down by VisitScotland. A fate soon to happen to our one in Kirkwall, Orkney.

In Shetland the Shetland Tourism Association (STA) stepped in with a petition and fundraiser to save this important tourist site. Two of their members,  Netta Simpson and Elaine Nicolson, subsequently purchased the property.

What are the next steps?

Now the Shetlanders are exploring the possibility of developing the facility as a community-owned business to protect this vital resource for all Shetlanders and visitors.

They have an online survey – click on this link to access.

The results of the survey will help the STA in how to progress the project so that both locals and visitors to Shetland will be able to find out, in person, what the islands have to offer.
