A fine dry day across the Northern Isles with prolonged periods of sunshine. Winds south to southeast occasionally fresh. Temperatures rather warm for early autumn. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight:

Dry with clear spells through the evening, then cloud gradually feeding from the east during the night, bringing some risk of rain to Shetland come dawn. Fresh southeast winds. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Wednesday 10 September :

Chance of a spell of occasionally heavy rain for Shetland for the morning. Otherwise mainly dry with some brighter spells, however some showers over Orkney late afternoon. Southeast winds strengthening. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Unsettled with showers for all days, these occasionally merging to longer periods of rain for Thursday. Winds occasionally strong, perhaps touching gale force for a time on Friday.
