‘So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.’
– Roald Dahl, Matilda

This has been Book Week Scotland – a celebration of books and reading till 23 November.

We might be an online publication but here at The Orkney News we love books, and we have several that our company Orkney News Ltd has published.

They are all available from good bookstores worldwide with the exception of The Rousay Clearances – Exodus from the Egypt of the North, which is only available as an ebook. Details here :

Book Week Scotland is run by the Scottish Book Trust and up and down the country events have been and are being held to celebrate books and reading.

The Scottish Book Trust is running its annual Christmas appeal.

Your donations will support a love of reading in children, families and adults through all life stages. This includes creating specialised kits to support families to share stories, songs and rhymes with their children, sending tactile books to children with additional support needs, and gifting books to families who need them most through food banks and community hubs.
