By Bernie Bell.

We parked at the Stones of Stenness, walked along by Harray Loch, nipped across the road to look over the gate at the Ness of Brodgar site.

The people of The Ness placed this sign on the gate when the dig finished

notice on the gate

BUT…but….but…but….but there’s going to be a one-trench dig this coming summer!

Then on the RSPB walk round by Stenness Loch, passing a Raven perched on a stone

And up to a Raven-haunted Ring of Brodgar – there were four there, flying, perching, kronking

Down past the Comet Stone and along the path where we looked across and wondered if it would be a Maeshowe day?  A possibility – there was some cloud – but also some strong beams of sunlight

the sun peeping behind the clouds over Hoy viewed from Brodgar

And, thankfully, not a drone in sight!

  1. Was it a Maeshowe day?

  2. I don’t know – but I have to admit that not long after that picture was taken, and just about at the actual sunset – the bank of cloud moved to cover the sun – so…..I’m afraid….probably not. Folk have to take their chances….
