Cloudy with patchy rain and light showers for much of the day. Rain will become persistent over Shetland from mid-afternoon before moving to Orkney towards the evening. Strengthening westerly winds. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Windy with northwest winds increasing to severe gale for a time overnight. Early rain soon clears to frequent snow showers, these heavy and perhaps thundery at times. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Thursday 1 January 2026: YELLOW WARNING SNOW AND ICE.

Early severe gale northwest winds will turn north and ease slowly through the afternoon. Frequent heavy snow showers will continue through the day. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Very cold conditions with further snow showers continue, these heavy at times. Friday will be windy with the wind easing slowly through Saturday and Sunday.
