The 2024 edition arrived

cover of the report

and, as always, is a mine of information with a Monthly Summary, many facts and figures about, for example, breeding birds, rarities, ringing etc.  etc.

There are photographic images in the section entitled ‘Birds in Portrait’ including – just to mention a few – Redwing, White-tailed Eagle, Tree Pipit, Great White Egret (!), the beauty that is a Bluethroat and, a personal favourite, Snow Bunting.

In the section entitled ‘Systematic List of Birds’ there are images of original art works – I particularly like the Yellow-browed Warbler by Tom Gale.

In the ‘Rarity Finder’s Accounts’ there’s a first record for  North Ronaldsay/second for Orkney of an American Robin, and two first records for both North Ronaldsay & Orkney of a Black-faced Bunting and a Brown Booby!

And then there’s the  ‘Non-Avian’ section which is mostly moths including a pic. of a Death’s-head Hawk-moth by George Gay – which clearly shows the  ‘Death’s-head!

At the back of the Report there’s a basic but useful map to give an idea of where places are in North Ronaldsay.

The Report costs just £15 and previous Reports are still available at a reduced price – but if you become a ‘Friend of…’ you get this year’s FREE!
