The Fossil & Heritage Centre in Burray is closed for the Winter
but the Relic Café, in the same premises, is open. We heard that they have a yummy new lunch menu and thought we’d go and try it out.
‘As Man proposes, God disposes’. It was a wild, wet, windy day and we decided that we’d be foolish to try to cross the Churchill Barriers, so we went to the Barrier View Café instead. As the name implies, the cafe has views across to the First and Second Barriers

From our table we could see waves that were not only hitting the Second Barrier, but arching right over it

Some were even bigger than these!
We thought we’d made the right decision.
A woman at the next table said she’d come across in the morning, and needed to get back. She was timing the biggest waves, counting the seconds between each one, and reckoned that she could get across between the ones which actually over-topped the Barriers if she timed it right.
As she left she said if we saw a peedie car floating by, to call the Coastguard!
I suppose that folk who are used to living the other side of the Barriers don’t take it as seriously as the rest of us and have strategies for dealing with it.
Lunch was gorgeous, as always

There’s always something to notice at the Barrier View

Maybe the Octopus was washed ashore by a big wave!
