On 8 February 1968 the film Planet of the Apes premiered  at the Capitol Theatre in New York City.

The film was loosely based on the novel by  Pierre Boulle. It was a hit at the box office and produced 4 sequels.

Set far into the future the film resonates with themes relevant to today including the consequences of nuclear war. It turns the tables on animal experimentation where the animals are the captured humans.
