From Monday 9 March bus fares in Orkney will be capped at £2. Introduced first in Shetland and the Western Isles, and supported by £10 million Scottish Government investment, the pilot scheme aims to make bus travel more affordable and accessible.
The extension of the £2 bus fare cap will be rolled out in Highland, Moray, Argyll and Bute from 23 March.

There’s no need to apply and no requirement to live locally. Simply board a bus, pay your fare, and enjoy your journey for no more than £2.
Concessionary passengers with a National Entitlement Card can continue to travel free of charge, as usual.
First Minister of Scotland, John Swinney said:
“This pilot makes bus travel more affordable for everyone and improves access for low-income communities in rural areas.
“The new £2 bus fare cap is a huge saving, making it easier and cheaper for people to get around.
“This is just one measure we are taking to help people with the rising cost of living, including scrapping peak rail fares to help commuters, and continuing to provide free bus travel for under-22s, over-60s and disabled people.”
The pilot brings together the Scottish Government, HiTrans, ZetTrans and local bus operators, delivering on a key commitment in the 2025/26 Scottish Budget.
