On Saturday 7 March between 1 and 2pm ,on the Kirk Green, Broad Street, Kirkwall, islanders will gather in vigil for the people of Gaza. The vigils have been taking place since the end of October 2023.

Occasionally a few people have expressed the opinion – What has this to do with Orkney ? – and Why are you still holding vigils for Gaza?

The US/Israel War of Choice.

On 28 February the US and Israel attacked Iran. The War of Choice has no end date – and President Trump himself has described a situation of ‘never ending war’. In one of the first actions of the War, the US hit a girls school in Iran – 170 were killed. School books, bags, and the remnants of children’s bodies littered the area. This is a war crime.

Getting away with Genocide in Gaza – Israel, fully funded by US dollars and weaponry, seemingly told the US that they were going to attack Iran. President Trump duly followed, frantic to get a distraction from the Epstein Files and his close links with the paedophile and sex trafficker.

The War of Choice has spread throughout the region, causing mass disruption to trade routes, oil and gas supplies, – and as US Secretary of War Pete Hesketh gloried in telling us – causing death and destruction.

While the War spreads, affecting more countries, killing more civilians, and shooting up the price of oil and gas, it will affect you directly in Orkney when your energy bills rise.

“The wholesale gas price – what energy firms pay for gas – is spiking due to the conflict in the Middle East. This rate is a prime driver of UK electricity prices, which means that if the spike’s sustained (big if), it will likely push the Energy Price Cap up from July. ” – Money Saving Expert.

Those who did nothing to stop the Genocide in Gaza now know the price of complicity in the war crimes committed by Israel on the Palestinians.

To the Orkney Islands Councillor who considered that the tens of thousands of Gazans killed were just collateral damage – no doubt he thinks the same of the girls killed in their classrooms in Iran in the targeted attack by the US – do you know what a war crime is ?

The US is dancing to Israel’s tune. Netanyahu wants the Israeli elections held sooner rather than later on this year, to capitalise on the War – bombing Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, and the settler supported violence in The West Bank.

In Orkney, the islanders welcome anyone who wishes Peace for Gaza and to stop the US/Israel War of Choice, to join them today, Saturday, on the Kirk Green, Broad Street, Kirkwall, between 1 and 2 pm.

Enough with the killing. Enough with the War Crimes. Enough with the Gaza Genocide. Take a stand for Peace.

I was wondering if John Ross Scott still supports Israel? Still maintains that Israel is fighting terrorism? That’s what he said, and it’s why I un-friended him on Facebook. I was reluctant to do so, as I believe that to smack of ‘playground behaviour’. At the same time – I want nothing to do with someone who can see Israel/Palestine/Gaza through those eyes.

The OIC councillor who made the comment referred to in the article was not Councillor Scott

I’m referring to the stance that John Ross Scott has taken – if there’s another Councillor with similar views – that’s even more disturbing.
