the opening to the Tomb of Eagles Neolithic burial chamber entered by crawling

The Tomb of Eagles in South Ronaldsay is gearing up for its 2026 Visitor season.

Managed by the South Ronaldsay and Burray Development Trust (SRBDT), the Tomb of the Eagles has as its main sponsor Pentland Ferries.

Joe Horrocks, a member of SRBDT’s Tomb of the Eagles sub-committee, said:

“Works to upgrade the Visitor Centre have been carried out by Clouston’s which ensure that the centre now satisfies fire regulations and we are able to use the second floor for new offices for staff, volunteers and storage.”

A community effort went into getting the tomb re-opened with a superb Visitor Centre and experienced staff on site.

Returning visitors may remember the little trolley which you can still use to gain access to the tomb itself.

For Orkney residents there is a 20% discount on the admission charge. Fantastic value and a great place to visit, but leave plenty of time because there’s so much to see, including the coastal walk.
