On 12 July 1962, a band appearing as ‘The Rolling Stones’, played in  the Marquee Club, London.

The line up of The Rolling Stones at that first appearance under the name they were to become famous as consisted of: Mike Jagger, Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Ian Stewart, Dick Taylor, and a drummer (name unconfirmed).

 Tony Chapman joined as drummer shortly after, while Bill Wyman auditioned for the role of bass guitarist at a pub in Chelsea on 7 December 1962 and was hired as a successor to Dick Taylor. (Wikipedia) .

By 1963 they were playing in their first UK tour – and the rest is Rock n Roll History.

In July 1964 The Rolling Stones had their first number 1 hit in the UK with ‘It’s all over now’.
