By Olive Ritch.
Thou shalt not be bigsy.
Thou shalt not footer aboot.
Thou shalt not be a trattle-bogie.
Thou shalt not clank, shalt not chant.
Thou shalt not be Jeenie-fae-the-neeps.
Thou shalt not gavse, girn, glomer.
Thou shalt not gowl and greet.
Thou shalt not be gapie.
Thou shalt not be pavie.
Thou shalt not be tappie.
Thou shalt not be tagsie.
Thou shalt not be twartie.
Thou shalt not be twirnie-faced.
Thou shalt not yatter, yarp, yolder.
And to dowters, mithers and faethers
repeat: thou shalt not be a spaekalation.
‘In Orkney: Remember’ is from Olive M Ritch’s debut poetry collection: Weather Blinks, and it is available from bookshops in Orkney and drunkmusepress.com/shop
