Reaction from Orkney’s politicians on HIAL and Prospect discussions
The failure of the Scottish Government Transport Minister Graeme Dey to engage with HIAL’s air traffic controllers has been described as a ‘missed opportunity’ by the trade union representing them.
The trade union Prospect which represents air traffic controllers working at HIAL has invited politicians in the Highlands and Islands to a Jobs Summit today
Prospect members working in air traffic control for Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) are tomorrow, 29th July, taking part in a one day strike over plans to centralise air traffic control in Inverness.
“I urge both sides to get back round the table for talks to develop a solution that best addresses the aspirations of both union members and HIAL management.” Emma Roddick MSP SNP
Prospect members working in air traffic control for Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) are to stage a one day strike on 29 July over plans to centralise air traffic control in Inverness.
“Prospect members have signalled with this vote that they are determined to stand firm against this disastrous project.”
Air Traffic Controllers who are members of trade union Prospect are to lift their overtime ban at Highlands and Islands Airports Limited so that Ballot Boxes can be transported in Scottish islands where that is needed.
If the air traffic controllers approve of this then a short strike would start on 4th of January 2021.
