Orcadians will be taking the knee again today, Wednesday 24th of June at 6pm with their doorstep campaign in support of Black Lives Matter.
Across Orkney people of all ages took part in a Black Lives Matter event organised by the campaigning group Orkney Resists.
Sheku was stopped by police and was held face down on the ground within 46 seconds of the arrival of the first two officers. During the restraint, officers used CS spray, batons, leg and ankle restraints and handcuffs.
Organised by Orkney Resists, Orcadians took photographs of themselves with messages of support.
“When I first came across the idea of going down on one knee, in memory of George Floyd, I thought that was a disturbing, mistaken approach.”
On Wednesday 3 June at 6pm Stand Up To Racism, backed by Orkney Resists, calls on people to “take the knee” on their doorsteps or wherever they are.
