New Look for Orkney Harbours Website

In the hopes that it will be more user friendly The Orkney Harbours website has had a make over. Check it out to see what you think. It was developed by a Shetland based company NB Communications which is a pity that a local business could not be found to do this. They also did the Orkney.com website.

The website provides a wealth of information on the range of services carried out by Orkney Islands Council’s Marine Services including towage, pilotage, vessel traffic services and ship to ship transfers. In addition, it highlights the key revenue streams for the Harbour Authority complimented by real time information for stakeholders.

Seafarers can also access key information such as port arrivals and departures, tide tables and the schedule of charges.

The website is complemented by its sister website www.cruise-orkney which is aimed at those with a particular interest in the cruise industry in Orkney.

Michael Morrison  Business Development Manager for Orkney Islands Council said:

“With a long seafaring tradition Orkney’s piers and harbours have become the hub of island activity. In all Orkney Islands Council is responsible for 29 piers and harbours hosting ferries and fishing vessels, tankers and tugs, cruise liners and creel boats and freight vessels and dive boats. We should not forget the three marinas which  play such a vital role in marine tourism.  There’s a huge amount of information available to the public on these services and we’re pleased to be able to provide this on our newly revamped website.”
